What different types of glazing bars are there?
Different types of glazing bars have different advantages. These can be aesthetic or practical benefits. Here we show different types and explain their various properties.
Types of glazing bars
- SP - Removable surface-mounted glazing bars
- FSP - Fixed glazing bars
- GSP - Glazing bars between panes
Removable surface-mounted glazing bars (SP)
A removable surface-mounted glazing bar, which we call SP, is by far the most common type of glazing bar on the Swedish market. As the heading suggests, the glazing bar is attached to the glazing bead on the outside of the window. The advantages are that it is affordable, aesthetic, and relatively easy to design. When it's time to clean, it can be easily removed.

Fixed glazing bars on the inside and outside (FSP)
A fixed glazing bar, also known as a true glazing bar, is glued to the inside and outside of the insulated glass unit. A spacer is placed between the panes, creating the impression that the glazing bar divides the glass pane. The advantage of this type of glazing bar is that it is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. It can be easily shaped according to your wishes and gives an authentic impression. The disadvantage may be that it takes a little longer to clean a window as the glazing bar is glued in place.

Glazing bars between panes (GSP)
Placing the glazing bars inside the insulated glass unit is very practical from a maintenance perspective. This means it doesn't interfere when it's time to clean the window. A great advantage is that you can often choose between three different widths, making it easy to create a dynamic impression. However, the glazing bars are not as visible from all angles as the reflection in the glass can obscure them at certain times of the day.

Types of transoms
- MPG - Glass-dividing transom
- MPU - Removable surface-mounted transom
Glass-dividing mullion (MPG)
A glass-dividing transom is part of the sash that divides the glass surface. The mullion gives a sturdy and authentic impression. It also acts as a stabilizer for really large window areas.

Removable surface-mounted wide glazing bars (MPU)
A wide removable surface-mounted glazing bar, or MPU, is a more affordable alternative to the glass-dividing mullion. The advantages are that it is affordable, aesthetic, and relatively easy to design. When it's time to clean, it can be easily removed.

Design codes:
- 01 - One vertical
- 10 - One horizontal
- X - Cross glazing bars
- D - Diamond glazing bars
The first digit indicates the number of horizontal and the second digit indicates the number of vertical.

If you choose a surface-mounted glazing bar with one vertical and two horizontal glazing bars, the code will be as follows: 1SP 21.

If you choose one vertical glass-dividing mullion and two horizontal glazing bars, the code will be as follows: 1MPG01 & 2SP 20.
