XXL "Sombrero" Hammock: The Essence of the Colombian Hammock
The XXL "Sombrero" Hammock is one of the flagship products in the range. It stands out for its ethnic design, inspired by the ancestral symbols of the pre-Columbian era. In Colombia, it is common to say that the more complex the design, the more valuable the hammock. These are mostly geometric ethnic figures. The fringes are made of crocheted fabric and adorn the sombreros. To complete your relaxation area, we recommend pairing this hammock with our XL "Tumaco" hammock chair. A similar style, for a coordinated and harmonious atmosphere. For a perfect setup, feel free to pair it with our Colombian ropes. They are specially designed for our Colombian hammocks.
The Hammock and Colombia
Colombia is one of the great hammock countries, along with Brazil and Mexico. A true way of life, it is difficult to escape the sight of a hammock throughout the country. You can see them on apartment balconies, terraces, in gardens, and inside homes. In fact, in Colombia, the hammock is the equivalent of our lounge chair. The whole family uses it for a nap and to spend nights in; some Colombians will tell you with a smile, but this hammock serves as a sofa when the husband is not welcome in the marital bed... In the hottest states, as in all indigenous communities, hammocks replace our traditional beds!
The History of the Latin American Hammock
A topic that is still debated, but everything suggests that the first hammocks came into being in the culture of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, and later in Mayan culture. They used a fiber obtained from the bark of the tree trunk called "hamack". Mexican hammocks are still made of netting, as was the case with the first hammocks.
They then spread throughout part of Central America, notably in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Different indigenous groups, such as the Incas and other Mesoamerican cultures, often traded the hammock as a valuable object, adopting and adapting it to their needs and material conditions. Spending the Night Under the Stars in an XXL Hammock
Synonymous with relaxation and unwinding, once inside, you understand why the indigenous people called it "the cradle of the gods". With this XXL hammock measuring 1.80 meters wide, spending a comfortable night under the stars can be an excellent idea. However, we recommend making sure that it is not too close to the ground. If the hammock is too low, you may feel the cold during the night or upon waking up. To remedy this, we advise placing a rug underneath the hammock.
